Heritage Festival Preview Scheduled
WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The West Plains Council on the Arts gave a review and update on the Old-Time Music, Ozark Heritage Festival, to the West Plains City Council at their regular meeting on July 15, 2024. The festival celebrated its 30th anniversary on June 7 & 8, 2024. The annual event in downtown West Plains celebrates Ozarks music and culture. Input and information from surveys, volunteers, vendors, committee debriefings and artists were used to evaluate, improve and plan future events.
Included were these points.
· Festival date changed to the third full weekend in October, starting October 2025.
· On September 7, 2024, a mini festival “preview” is scheduled to take place in and around the civic center grounds. Attendees can expect music, storytelling, artisans’ demonstration and other activities represented at the festival. More information will be available as the plans are confirmed. Organizers will take the opportunity to inform everyone about the changes that are planned and welcome suggestions about directions future festivals might take.
The Old-Time Music, Ozark Heritage Festival is the signature event for West Plains. The festival seeks to celebrate, preserve, pass on and nurture an appreciation of the old-time music and folk life traditions distinctive to the Ozark Highlands. Admission to all festival events is free.
